Briefly give the views regarding the reasons for conserving biodiversity.
Biodiversity could be defined as the variety in life or the various species that we observe on land. The United Nations environment programme would measure the variations at species, genetic and the level of ecosystem. It has been observed that terrestrial biodiversity is greater at the equator which may be as a result of a warmer climate near the equator.
Due to rapid changes in the environment and mass extinctions, there has been a rapid change in the biodiversity, where it is estimated that 99.9% of the species are estimated as being extinct. Why conservation of biodiversity is important is due to a very simple reason, to maintain the genetic variability. It is important to realise that animals, plants, microorganisms, and the various ecosystems interact with one another to maintain a balance. In order to keep this balance up, it is important rhetoric sustainable conservation strategies as well as development strategies should be planned. If the level of biodiversity is healthy, it would provide with nutrient recycling, soil protection and formation, ecosystem maintenance, along with protection of cultural values.
Conservation of biodiversity is also required for maintains aesthetics as well as conserving our curiosity. If a person thinks that it is only animals who form part of the biodiversity, it requires to be rethought, as it is not only animals but also plants, air, water etc also form a part of biodiversity. Many of the plants add medicinal value along with adding an element of beauty to the nature. These medicines that come up from plants are used to treat diseases and completely get rid of those, with the vivid field of Ayurveda. Many of the plant species and the conditions they treat are yet to be discovered. Native species richness is associsted with quality of life for humans. Conserving biodiversity is required as our life and quality depends on it.
