Physiological class. In measurement. How and why might the Weight/height ratio be more valuable than BMI?
Weight/height ratio has been shown the better tool to predict the condition of cardiometabolic risk (high blood pressure ,diabetes, heart attack ,stroke than body mass index(BMI).The priciple behind the weight/height ratio system is to predict the cardiometabolic risk based on distribution of fat around the body. The abdominal fat has been seen to be a indicative factor for the heart, kidney and liver disease than the fat around the lower hip and bottom region. The inference drawn by the Weight/height calculation is that waist circumference should be half of your height in normal healthy people. The alteration in this ratio can be indicative of cardimetabolic risk.
Where as BMI is widley used tool to measure obesity which can be calculated by ratio of weight of the person and square of their height in meter .This method doesn't concentrate on the fat deposited in different parts of the body, it actually tell us the overall fat deposition in body irrespective of fat accumulation in the particular segment of body.Therfore, it is not the potent method to predict the cardiometabolic risk or other risk.
