What is the commercial importance of algae?
Commercial uses of algae:
1.They have genetically and biochemical characterstics. They naturally produce bioactive compounds, sugars and fats.
2. Microalgae are the microscopic unicellular organisms capable to convert solar energy to chemical energy through photosynthesis.
3. The major use of algae spirulina is for the extraction of phycocynin which has blue photosynthetic pigment.
4. Microalgae chlorella is used in several byproduct of food and vegetable preservatives.
5. Daunaliella Salina algae is used to get beta carotene to beta carotene and vitamin C supplement
6. Microalgae of spirulina and chlorella are rich source of nutrients, high protein and easy to grow they are used in pharmaceutical industries for tablets, capsules and liquid as nutritional supplements.
7. Phycocynin (Spirulina platensis) is used in the pigment, vitamins and cosmetics.
8. Eicosapentaenoic acid (Chlorella spirulina) is used in nutraceutics and Euglena gracilis is for biotin and alpha tocopherol that is vitamin A is also prepared from this microalgae.
9.They are used in pasta, chips and liquid extract as well in so many countries.
