Suppose that in the synthesis of benzoic acid , a student uses
1.09 grams of magnesium , 7.83 grams of bromobenzene , and 21.196
grams of dry ice. If the mass of benzoic acid obtained were 4.13,
what was the percent yield?
Make a flow chart for the synthesis of Benzoic Acid from phenyl
magnesium bromide and carbon dioxide. Using your knowledge of the
physical properties of the solvents, reactants, and products, show
how the products can be purified. Indicate which layer should
contain the product in the liquid/liquid extraction steps.
A chemistry graduate student is given 300.mL of a 1.10M benzoic
acid HC6H5CO2 solution. Benzoic acid is a weak acid with
Ka=6.3x10^−5.
What mass of KC6H5CO2 should the student dissolve in the
HC6H5CO2 solution to turn it into a buffer with pH =4.40?
You may assume that the volume of the solution doesn't change
when the KC6H5CO2 is dissolved in it.
Be sure your answer has a unit symbol, and round it to 2
significant digits
Suppose a 0.050 M benzoic acid, HC7H5O2 solution is prepared.
The Ka for benzoic acid is 6.3×10 −5. Calculate the pH of the
benzoic acid solution.
pH = ?
How do i determine the distribution coefficent of benzoic acid?
I used 0.050 grams of benzoic acid and performed extractions 3
times using 2.0 ml of methylene cloride and 2.0 mL of water and got
around 0.035 grams after all the extractions done.
also is there a correlation between the values of the
distribution coefficent and the polarity of the compound?
thank you
Assuming you have 0.075 grams of benzoic acid in 1 mL of
water
A) Calculate the moles of benzoic acid.
B) Assuming you used 1 mL of 2 M NaOH calculate the moles of
NaOH present in solution.
C) Is the amount of NaOH sufficient to react with all of the
benzoic acid?
how many grams of magnesium metal are required to react with
excess hydrochloric acid to produce 28.50 ml of hydrogen, measured
at 26.0 C and 760 mm Hg
Calculate the apparent solubility of benzoic acid at pH 5.
Benzoic acid is a weak acid, with pKa = 4.2 and
solubility of nonionized species S0 = 0.028
mol/L.
Please show steps
500 grams of perchlorous acid reacts with 1.25x 1024
molecules of magnesium hydroxide via a double displacement
reaction
a) Write a balanced chemical reaction
b) To the correct number of significant figures, what is the
maximum amount of salt (in molecules) that can be produced
c) Does the reaction produce a basic or acidic solution
