Engineering is a very vast field in which we have to meet variety of people every day and try to maintain our status and respect in the field. It is required that the engineers should have their own ethics and rules which needs to be followed by them. There are lots of expectations of people whether it be senior, junior or any type of client to the engineer if he or she is ethical. An engineer with ethics should always be honest regarding his work and should work on the principles that are fair and should not do wrong with any other person by any unfair means. Any kind of business or job is being appreciated if it is ethical in nature. The fundamental principles of the engineers would include many other things except honesty, these are speaking truth in any conditions whether it may lead to suffering of loss but may be better for mankind as in civil engineering people have to deal with the structures and use them for the purpose of living or any kind of official work. Lives of people are at risk if any kind of misshapen is being occurred due to some bad quality work being done for the sake of money.

Below are some other points that needs to be fulfilled by the ethical engineer to keep their attitude or respect at good level. The requirements are being listed below which may help to be a disciplined engineers with lot of better principles :

  • Engineers should ensure that the client with which they are working with is aware of the professional concerns of the engineer regarding any project or the work that needs to be completed.
  • He should act as an faithful agent to the employees which helps to gain the trust for the future and it would help in getting various other projects in the coming time.
  • They shall commit to life long learning and should try to learn from every possible thing. There is always room for improvement and the time should be used for their self development.
  • Engineers should promote the taking of the responsibility and act as a leader so that the juniors and new comers would follow the path and should share the knowledge which he has been acquiring with the time period.
  • They should be helpful and show kind behaviour to all those working in the industry or department irrespective of the level of person whom they are meeting. This thing also comes under the ethical behaviour of any normal human being.

All these things mentioned above are being expected in the behaviour and attitude of an ethical engineer which would help them to progress at better rates in their department.
