Fishery is an industry that deals with catching, processing, and marketing of fishes and other aquatic animals that have a high economic value. Some commercially important aquatic animals that are caught,processed and marketed are the prawns crabs, oysters, lobsters, and octopus.

Fishes contribute to the common component of our everyday food.These products that complememt our daily diet include the fish products, prawn, crab, lobster, edible oyster, etc.
These form a protein rich diet for human beings.
Fishery also plays an important role in any country's economy. This is because a large part of world population is dependent on fishes as a source of food.
Fishery is an employment generating industry.Both freshwater fishes and marine fishes are of high economic value.
They are rich sources of omega fatty acids that is very essential for the body.This is found in the fish liver oil.
