Mention a few examples to use of microbes in household products
Microbes
are microscopic organisms, which exist in its
single-celled form or in a colony of cells. They are essential
components of biological systems on the earth. They are present
everywhere that is in soil, water, air, inside our bodies and those
of other animals and plants.
They found deep inside the thermal vents, deep in soil, under the
layer of snow and in highly acidic surroundings.Microorganisms are
used in the production of fermented food and beverages. E.g. Yeast,
Penicillium, Lactobacillus.
Microbes in household products:
The common products obtained by the use of microbes are curd,
dough, toddy, cheese etc.
1) Curd: It is formed by adding bacteria such as Lactobacillus and
others known as lactic acid bacteria in milk.
2) Dough: It is formed by the process of fermentation caused by
bacteria.
3)Toddy: It is traditional drink of southern India. It is made by
the process of fermentation of sap from palm trees by
bacteria.
4) Cheese: It is made by partial degradation of milk using
different microbes.
Microbes are also used to ferment fish, soybean and bamboo
shoots to make food.
