What is the "turnover train?" What are the factors that lead people to start the process of turnover at each stage, and what can organizations do to try to encourage people to get off the train at each stage?
The “turnover train” is what occurs when the company has a level of turnover that makes it seem as if there is a revolving door of people coming and going from the company. It can be seen as an epidemic since it can cost the company both time and money in the long run. Creating a workplace that feels family friendly and where the employees look at each other as a family can help to make the uneasy feelings lessen. This is because as the “turnover train” is occurring people might be asked to work longer hours and be away from their own families; which can cause stress. There must be a balance between work life and personal life for an employee to be truly happy with both their job and their personal life. A good rewards or benefits program is something that can help lessen the chance of a high turnover of employees. Employees also need to be motivated by other things as well such as training in how to handle various situations such as customer service, leadership, diversity, and much more along with team building programs can help them be more satisfied with their job and their performance. When an employee leaves the company an exit interview must be performed in order to find out why they are leaving. Knowing this can help the company to make changes needed to prevent others from leaving for the same reason.
