What are the most important factors in determining why people vote? Are there particular factors that appear to be more important than other factors? Does this hold true for all countries or just the United States? Why are people not voting in the United States? What role do the two parties play in this?
People are more or less likely to vote depending on their socio-economic conditions like wealth, education and occupation etc. Voters and political parties are more educated and financially well off than general population. Unfortunately, those who rely more on government policies have fewer opportunities to participate or engage in electoral practices. Income is an important factor on whether people should vote or not. Also, wealthier people are more likely to vote regardless of their educational qualifications. They have greater access to political activities via contacts with powerful political people.
Despite high education levels, the vote turnout in the US is low due to outdated voting machines, inaccessible voting sites, voluntary registration and scheduled dates for voting to take place. The two-party system of the US may not render a candidate from opposing party. Advertising is used by both the parties for campaigning.
