HIV standsc for Human immunodeficiency virus and causes severe desease like AIDS i.e, Aquired immuno defficiency syndrome. It can effect a person as person come in contact with HIV infected person. Initially person infected with it does not show any symptom but as as time proceed it show symptom close to influenza. It mainly efffect the immune system and thereby causes fever, illness and weight loss.
It mainly infect a person through blood contact, sexual contact and by mother to their child. Presence of this virus is mainly detected through blood test which is antibody test. But some time it happens that although the person is infected with HIV virus still test is negative this is because body of some person does not produce enough antibody at that time and thus antibody test will be negative.
Thus the time period between the HIV infection and when test detected is known as WINDOW PERIOD for HIV infection. Some people will produce antibodies which is easily detectable in blood test between 2 weeks to 12 weeks. Due to this reason test may show negative result inspite of person being infected.
Hence the correct option for "window period " for HIV infection is between 2 weeks to 12 weeks i.e, 3 months after exposure.
