a. Describe the concepts involved in the theory/model.
b. What the theory/model states the relationship(s) is/are between the concepts.
c. How and why was this theory created?
1. Provide an example and a brief description of the nursing intervention that is based upon nursing or healthcare theory and the seminal theory/conceptual model.
ANSWER:
Florence nightingale theory is based on her personal experiences which she faces during providing care to sick and injured soldiers. In her theory she described that there is very strong relationship of a person with his/her environment, health and nurse.
Example:
Patients are to be put in the best condition for nature to act on them, it is the responsibility of nurses to reduce noise, to relieve patients’ anxieties, and to help them sleep.
Hence, nurses should make the environment calm, quite and make comfortable out of noise to make the patient sleep well and improve health condition of patient by providing adequate rest and sleep.
a. Describe the concepts involved in the theory/model.
ANSWER:
Nightingale’s Concepts involves the following:
1. Person
· Patient who is acted on by nurse
· Affected by environment
· Has reparative powers
2. Environment
· Foundation of theory. Included everything, physical, psychological, and social
3. Health
· Maintaining well-being by using a person’s powers
· Maintained by control of environment
4. Nursing
· Provided fresh air, warmth, cleanliness, good diet, quiet to facilitate person’s reparative process
b. What the theory/model states the relationship(s) is/are between the concepts.
ANSWER:
The relationship between each concept is logical and consistent with similar assumptions. A person’s health is in close relation with the environment he is staying. The health condition of a person can be control by maintaining a good environment like providing fresh air, warmth, cleanliness, good diet and direct sunlight etc. by nursing personals. Nursing is an art and a science Nursing is achieved through environmental alteration and requires a specific educational base
c. How and why was this theory created?
ANSWER:
Florence Nightingale's Environmental Theory defined Nursing as the act of utilizing the environment of the patient to assist him in his recovery. She identified 5 environmental factors: fresh air, pure water, efficient drainage, cleanliness or sanitation and light or direct sunlight.
According to Nightingale's Environmental Theory the gradual restoration of the patient’s health is related to his external factors that is the patient’s surroundings which affects the life or biologic and physiologic processes, and patient’s development.
During the Crimean War when served as a nurse, at this time she observed a correlation between the patients who died and their environmental conditions. Since then Florence Nightingale's Environment Theory changed the face of nursing practice. This is how and why she created this theory.
