please explain the Fischer Esterification and mechanism of the Fischer Esterification concretely in your words!!!!
Then explain why 1H-NMR is used to determine the unknown!!
Above is an example of esterification reaction . Reactants are acetic acid and butanol. In the first step of the reaction the O atom of C=O will be protonated followed by development of a positive charge on carbonyl carbon atom. As the -OH group of butanol contains lone pair of electron, they are able to act as a nucleophile and attacks the Positively charged center. Then a radid proton transfer occur to form a -OH2+ group whichhas good leaving group ability. It leaves the reaction center . Then a double bond is formed at the reaction center to give the product ester.
-----------------------------
1-H NMR can identify the unknown as it has greater number of protons that the reactants. Also, parent alcohol and acid will have completely different 1-H NMR pattern
