The body's physiological response consists of both a/an ______________ response and a/an ________________ response.

A) sympathetic, endocrine

B) parasympathetic, sympathetic

C) physical, mental

D) parasympathetic, endocrine

Solutions

Expert Solution

a) Sympathetic, endocrine

The physiological response to the body means there is an immediate reaction to one or more of the systems of the body. It includes the natural ability of the body to a sudden change in the body and hence the body is also able to respond to change in mechanism of the body. They help with the fight or flight response of the body. The sympathetic system helps in controlling the threat to the body and response to the same. In such physiological response, there is change in heart rate, increase in rate of respiration, increase sweating, change in temperature or it also increases the production of adrenaline and increase muscle energy production. The endocrine system also helps in initiating the physiological response as they tend to release chemical messengers called hormones which are transported to bloodstream and hence are able to start a physiological response. The endocrine system also helps in maintaining the homeostasis

The second option is not correct because the parasympathetic system is majorly responsible for rest and digest function and it helps in restoring the calm in the body. It helps in reducing heart rate and it helps in enhancing the rest and digestion activities of the body. It also helps in restoring energy of the body and they also help in slowing down the body functions. Hence it is not responsible for initiating a physiological response.

The third option is not correct because it is the nervous and hormone system which helps in controlling the physiological response. It also helps in maintaining the physical as well as mental condition.

The last option is not correct because parasympathetic system is majorly responsible for rest and digest function and it helps in restoring the calm in the body. It helps in reducing heart rate and it helps in enhancing the rest and digestion activities of the body. However, only the endocrine system helps in maintaining the physiological response of body.
