How does the graph of y = sin x compare with the graph of y = cos x? Explain how you could horizontally translate the graph of y = sin x to obtain y = cos x.

How does the graph of y = sin x compare with the graph of y = cos x? Explain how you could horizontally translate the graph of y = sin x to obtain y = cos x.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Consider the following sine function:

y = sinx

Use maple to show the graph of above function.

Consider the following cosine function:

y = cosx

Use maple to show the graph for above function.

From the above two graphs, it is clear that the graph of y = cos(x) can be easily obtained from the graph of y = sin(x), by horizontally shifting the graph of sin(x) to the right by a distance of π/2.
