The distinction between artificial selection and natural selection is important to master. Consider a bacteria that does not cause human disease. Describe these processes using illustrative examples. Your examples may be fictitious, but they need to be realistic and make biological sense
1. Describe a specific example in which the bacteria changes (evolves) in a manner that Illustrates artificial selection. Your description should contain an explanation
2. Describe a specific example in which the bacteria changes (evolves) in a manner that illustrates natural selection Your description should contain an explanation.
artificial selection is process in which organisms are made to
reproduce together so that desirable traits are seen.
Example is when an antibiotic sensitive bacteria is made to
conjugate with a resistant strain. This results in antibiotic
resistant strain selection artificially.
natural selection is a process where a trait may become less or more common in order to help the bacteria survive over time. Example: when bacteria are exposed to antibiotics, the plasmid carrying antibiotic resistance gene will cause it resist being killed. over time, the number of bacteria with the resistance gene will increase in number. This process is called natural selection.
