Disaster Preparation and Recovery: You own and
run a large cattle operation in Linwood, Kansas. On May 28, 2019, a
tornado destroyed your home and barns. You kept all your records
and backups in your home office. What steps would you take to
recover your data and set up business again?
Now assume it is six months earlier. How
would you set up your business to be prepared in case of an
emergency?
✓ disaster preparation, recovery plan and arrangements are most important for any business units, to safeguard the valuable datas and retain the backups to protect financial, technical, legal, and other information. It is also important to keep the property safe and protect it with insurance, and to have all the necessary facilities, arrangements, emergency support, and financial stability to recover from disastrous events.
Considering the given scenario:
As a owner of a large cattle operations, I need to get all the information/data from the system of the home office and try to export it to another system. If is important to keep a backup and use cloud computing or cloud storage to safeguard the data and protect it with encryption, coding or passwords. I would try to get all the data and store it in a protective form, and then invest the money to have a rented office or to construct my own if possible, where I can also reside and manage family matters.
If, six month prior arrangements needs to be considered:
I would relocate if possible, to a safer place and try to protect property and all the assets. I would get an insurance, and keep a backup of all the records, datas. I would keep soft copies of the valuable information in more than one device or system, and use cloud based storage, with protection against cyber thefts and viruses. It is also important to have an emergency plan for safeguarding the lives of me and my family members and the people working in my office. With emergency first aid kit, transportation facilities and health-care providers contracts, with ambulance service numbers, one can reduce the risks and feel safer. Thus, with all these arrangements, I would also consider getting another house on rented basis in case the current home and office get destroyed by the tornado, or if enough resources (financial and technical) I would try to construct an underground home, and office to stay protected even in future.
(Hope it helps you. Please like the answer it will encourage me.)
