“The essence of the independent mind lies not in what it thinks, but in how it thinks” by Christopher Hitchens
write a short critical thinking essay about this quote?
Answer- The quote by Christopher Hitchens, " The essence of the independent mind lies not in what it thinks, but in how it thinks", tells us the importance of critical thinking. Parents and teachers should tell their kids and students the way of processing information and recognizing the knowledge they have is incomplete. There is a need to develop new skills and perspectives to see the life in a more systematic manner. A person should know how to give effective opinions about a particular thing. People should stop viewing the society in old traditional way and develop a power to think more sensitively and positively. What a person thinks is not so important but how he thinks is more important.
If people would improve their way of thinking, many problems in the society like racism, sexism, claasism etc will be removed completely. Children of our society need to learn what kind of person they are and how their personalities are shaping. We are living in a very advanced society and the sources like internet, media, mobiles, our friends, parents, teachers etc play an important role in our thinking process. We need to learn critical way of thinking to be aware of the knowledge present in our society. Teachers should teach their students how to think rather than what to think in order to make them independent thinkers and to help them in solving problems on small as well as on large levels.
