Yes, I think race is a concrete concept.Sociologists define
race as a concept that is used to signify different types of human
bodies. While it is socially constructed through human interaction
and relationships between people and institutions, as a social
force, race is very real in its consequences.
It's a concept we think is too crude to provide useful
information, it's a concept that has social meaning that interferes
in the scientific understanding of human genetic diversity. It is
something which has been created by the society of categorising us
into different races depending upon our colour, gender, ethinicity
etc. It is something we see around us and even talk about.
Race is a social construct dependent on a myriad of factors. In
the United States, there's a conflation between race and class for
example. Identity and experience also play an important role in the
perception of race. There's also a school of people who say that
race doesn't exist, but if you ask anyone who's been discriminated
against black, white, Asian, etc.they will certainly tell you
otherwise.
