What considerations do people have when they have had surgery to remove part of their GI tract, such as the stomach, part of the small intestine, or colon?

Solutions

Expert Solution

If any such portions are removed it will affect our digestion and thus will affect our life itself. So special consideration should be given to such patients so that they can do their digestion with some suppliments from our side.

In case of stomach it is the place where mechanical digestion occurs. This function can be replaced by taking the food with less churning activities or suppliments maxed like that. The gastric juice produced and the pepsin, trypsin, chymotrypsin they are to be replaced. So we need to give digestive enzymes like digestive juices and digestive enzymes for protein to the patient along with the food.

If we remove a portion of the small intesy the absorption is reduced. In such cases the food needed to be taken with small intervals as the nutrients in the food consumed will not properly absorb.

Colon is the ace where fluids are reabsorbed and the elimination of digested food. If a portion of colon is removed the reabsorption of fluids and the elimination won't take place properly. What we can do is that drink pleanty to nutrient rich water and drink water frequently. When such portion of colon is removed as suitable path for the elimination of the food should be made
