Victor, a 25-year-old man, has had surgery to remove one of his testicles due to seminoma. Can he still father a child? Explain your answer as if you were talking to another healthcare professional
Here i will give my answer in a conversational method. Other healthcare profession is Dr X.
Dr X : What you think about Mr Victor, his one of the testicles is removed because of seminoma. So he concerned about his fertility.
Myself: When i go through his case note i can understand that he is only 25-year old. So his concerns are reasonable. From his surgical history i realized that only one testicle had removed. Every man have two testicles in their body. Each testicle produce millions of sperm cells and testosterone ( a male hormone). It means that single testicle is capable enough to emit millions of sperm cells. One sperm cell is sufficent for fertilization with human egg ( ovum).
Dr X : yeah. It means that it didn't affect his fertility.
Myself : No, seminoma is a type of cancer occur in testicles, most of the time after the treatment some patient show low sperm count. If a person really want to become a father, before the treatment of cancer better to store sperm in a sperm bank for later use.
Dr X : Of course , i will share this information to Mr Victor. Thanks a lot.
Myself : You are welcome.
