1. In the Aeneid, virgil describes the wrath and resentment of the the goddess Juno towards the inhabitants of the city of Troy. The plot for this hatred is multilevelled. The primary reason for Juno’s antagonist feelings was that she was angry over the Judgement of Paris, the Trojan prince who had conspired with the JUNO’s rival , goddess Venus for deeming her the fairest in a competition between Juno, Venus and Minerva, if Venus keeps her promise of helping him win over Helen. However, there is another reason which is presented as a precursor to the climactic moment of Juno’s hatred. She hates the whole Trojan people, because the city was founded by Dardanus, an illegitimate son of Jupiter. Her hatred is most well pronounced for the royal family of Troy, because Jupiter abducted the Trojan prince Ganymede to be his lover and cupbearer. This led to the rejection of her own daughter as the city’s worshipped goddess and cupbearer. Finally, Juno’s love for the city of Carthage leads her to hate the Trojan society for which she knows that Carthage will come into conflict with Rome and be completely destroyed by it eventually.
Thus, for all these reasons, Juno is shown to become increasingly hostile to the Trojans and tries to stop Aeneas from founding Rome.
