The Constitution of the United States of America has many rules and laws. One of the ways that the constitution guards against tyranny is by spreading the power between the states, so that no one person, area, state, etc. had all of the power. The government also divides power between the three branches of our government. Each branch has power in its own way. The Legislative branch makes the bills, the Executive signs the bill making it a law, and the Judicial branch decides if the laws are constitutional. Popular sovereignty is the idea that the government is created by the people and subject to their will through their votes, meaning that that we are a democracy. The system of checks and balances keeps the branches of our government from getting too much power. It allows each branch to check the powers of the other two. A Judicial Review is when the power of a court must choose whether laws or actions by the government were done by the constitution. These are all reasons why the constitution is guarding against tyranny.
