In 800 APA word discuss the different kind of curvatures in the column and what are their importance.
close to 800 words
The four anteroposterior curvatures in an adult vertebral column are:
The thoracic and sacral curvatures are known to be concave anteriorly while the cervical and lumbar are known to be concave posteriorly. These curvatures are broadly classified as primary and secondary
The primary curvatures include thoracic and sacral curvatures and cervical and lumbar curvatures fall into the secondary curvature category. The reasons why these are termed as primary and secondary are:
The development of such vertebral curvatures start right from the embryonic development. In the beginning, the column have a C shaped vertebral column which is called as a primary curvature. This acts as a base reference for all the developmental changes that will going to occur subsequently. As the embryonic stage proceeds, the neonate starts developing by lifting its head. This is the point where a secondary curvature develops called cervical curvature. At this time, the thoracic curvature still remains and acts as a primary curvature. Subsequently as the time passes and an infant starts crawling and thereafter walking, and thereby assuming a posture which is upright for the vertebral column, another curvature starts its formation called the lumbar curvature. At this time, the sacral acts as a primary configuration in the column.
The importance of these four curvatures are listed below.Their names are dervided after the corresponding vertebrae they belong to:
