According to a research that was conducted by few researchers with the reports taken between 1962 to 2001 and most of the control showed improvement from an increase in the dissolved oxygen concentration and a decrease in fecal coliform bacteria.The shares of fishing in the river was gone high by 12% between 1972 and 2001.The clean water act was established in they year 1948 and was called the federal pollution control act but it was significantly recognised in the year 1972 it was the Clean water act and it has basic structure for regulating discharges of pollutants into waters of united states and maintaining,regulating quality standards for the surface waters.It made its unlawful for any person to discharge any pollutant from a point source into navigable waters until a permit was obtained .Recognized the need for planning to address critical problem posed by nonpoint source pollution. Over the years the laws have changed about the clean water act.The great lakes water quality agreement of 1978 signed by USA and canada where they agreed to reduce the toxic pollutants in the great lakes.This law required EPA to establish a quality standard of addressing 29 toxic pollutants with the maximum level of safety given to humans, wildlife and aquatic life.
