Q2. Below are the results of a manual reticulocyte count. Calculate
the relative reticulocyte
count. Show calculation.
1
st slide = 15 reticulocytes counted in 1000 cells
2
nd slide = 17 reticulocytes counted in 1000 cells
Q3. The patient in Question 2 above is an adult female with a
haematocrit value of
25%. Correct her reticulocyte count. Show calculation.
Q2. Calculate the relative reticulocyte count?
1 st slide = 15 reticulocytes counted in 1000 cells
Reticulocyte count in percentage = 15 reticulocytes counted in 1000 cells = 15/1000 cells.
Divide both sides by 10,
1.5/100 cells.
Reticulocyte count in percentage is 1.5%.
2nd slide = 17 reticulocytes counted in 1000 cells =
17 reticulocytes counted in 1000 cells = 17/1000 cells.
Divide both sides by 10,
1.7/100 cells.
Reticulocyte count in percentage is 1.7%
Q3. Corrected reticulocyte value if the subject is an adult female with . a haematocrit value of 25%
Corrected reticulocyte count = reticulocyte % × (subject's Hct/normal Hct).
Normal hematocrit value for female= 37% to 48%
Subject's hematocrit = 25%
By applying, 1.5 * (25/37) to 1.5 * (25/48)
(25/37)*1.5 = 0.6756 * 1.5 = 1.01
(25/48)*1.5= 0.528 *1.5 = 0.78
For slide 1, corrected value range between 0.78 - 1.01.
Similarly for slide 2,
1.7 * (25/37) to 1.7 * (25/48)
(25/37)*1.7 = 0.6756 * 1.7 = 1.15
(25/48)*1.7= 0.528 *1.7 = 0.89
For slide 1, corrected value range between 0.89 - 1.15.
