Marginal productivity is the outcome of employing one extra unit of capital. Initially when capital was 17, productivity was Y = 4 + 9*K, i.e., Y = 4+ 9*17 = 157. With K = 18, Output will be Y = 4+ 9*18 = 170. So, Marginal productivity with 18 units = 170-157 = 13 units.

Y = 4 + 9*K0.5 = 4 + 9*17*0.5 = 80.5
Y = 4 + 9*18*0.5 = 81+4 =85
In this case Marginal productivity for 18 units will be 85 -80.5 = 4.5 Units
