ranscription initiation in eukaryotes requires the coordinated
action of many proteins. Which protein is responsible for
recruitment of splicing factors to the CTD of RNA Polymerase?
(a) snRNP
(b) TFIID
(c) TBP
(d) TFIIH
(e) TFIIA
I think the answer is A because that is spliceosomes?
The correct answer is a) snRNP
Reason : snRNP stands for Small Nuclear Ribonucleoprotein. Splicing is catalysed by spliceosomes, and snRNPs are one of them. In Eukaryotes, Spliceosomes are involved in recruitment of splicing factors (SF) to the carboxy terminal domain (CTD). To be precise, U1 snRNP brings SF1 to the intron branch point sequence. After that, U2AF1 and U2AF2 bind to 3' splice site and polypyrimidine tract respectively. This ultimately forms Complex E in the entire process. After that, the usual process of RNA splicing continues on by formation of several other complexes in consequent steps.
