Solutions

Expert Solution

A/C to Le Chateliers's principle , if we change any properties (temperature, pressure and concentration) of equilibrium reaction , then the equilibrium shifts in direction to cancel that change .

1. PCl5 (g) + Energy gives PCl3(g) + Cl2(g)

Addition of PCl3 Decreases the rate of forward reaction

Increasing he temp. increase the rate of reaction sine it is an example for endothermic reaction

Removal of both PCl3 and Cl2 increases therate of reaction, since to increase the conc. of products and to decrease the conc. of reactants

Addiiton of catalyst increase the reaction

2. NH4NO3(s) + Energy gives NH4+(aq) + NO3-(aq)

Addition of NH4NO3 increases te rate of reaction

Increase in temp and removal of Nh4+ also increases the rate

Addition of NO3- decreases the rate

Addition of NaCl ha no effect, since its a salt it wont interrupt the rxn.

At equilibrium, the rate of the forward reaction is equal to the rate of the reverse reaction. Both the forward and the reverse reactions are occurring, but because they are occurring at the same rate, no change is observed in the appearance of the solution. The rate of the reaction in terms of the "disappearance of reactant" includes the change in the concentration of the reactant, the time interval, and the coefficient of the reactant.
