Which of the following is NOT required for export of a protein from the nucleus to the cytosol?

Group of answer choices

Ran-GDP

Nuclear export receptor

Ran-GTP

None of the above

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ran-GTP and exportin proteins binds to the cargo protein in nucleus and transport it to the cytoplasm via nucleopore. Once ethe entire complex is in cytosol a GTPase convert Ran-GTP into Ran-GDP this causes entire complex to dissociate from cargo proteins. Ran-GDP along with exportin is transferred back from cytosol to nucleus. So protein is successfully delivered to cytosol when Ran-GTP is converted to Ran-GDP. Ran-GDP is formed when protein is delivered to cytosol. So if Ran-GDP formation is blocked protein will never dissociate in cytosol. So all of them are required for transport from nucleus to cytosol.

Option D (none of the above) is correct. For only one cycle Ran-GDP also can be considered
