Chris is a college freshman and lives in a campus residence hall. She teaches yoga in the evenings. She eats two to three meals a day in the dining hall at school, and snacks in the evening after her yoga class. Chris and her roommate recently decided to become vegetarian after reading an article about the health benefits of not eating meat.

Yesterday, Chris ate the following:

Breakfast: Bagel with butter and jam

Lunch: Tomato rice with no meat, pretzels and a diet coke

Dinner: Vegetarian Sub Sandwich with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, olives, and cheese, and 2 glasses of lemonade

Snack: Chocolate Milkshake and 2 cookies

1. Including fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, legumes in her diet help her to meet every day nutritional needs. Low fat milk , cheese, yogurt, beans, nuts, grains, fruit juice contain calcium, protein and iron, which are essential for the body.

She must avoid or minimize eating bagel, jam, pretzels, diet coke, sandwich because these food items wiil not provide much nutrients. bagels lack vitamins, minerals. regular eating of jam and pretzels develop heart problems, regular consumption of diet coke leads to weight gain, heart attacks. 3. By eating nutrients rich foods like fruits, diary, nuts, beans, vegetables, grains, Chris can improve her nutritional intake. Fruits provide high energy which helps to keep our body healthy.
