Solutions

Expert Solution

1) protists can be

non motile:- ex- gaint kelp are autotropical algal protists that form extensive under water forest.

motile:- most of the protist are motile. they exhibit locomotion through different methods such as flagella, cillia, pseudopodia

flagellated:- ex- euglena, has one flagella for locomotion

cilliated- ex-paramecium, cilia are similar to flagella except they are shorter and there are more of them. they may completely cover the surface of the protist cell.

2) protists can be--

saprobes- the organisms releases enzymes into the surroundings where the enzymes convert organic matter into simpler products. these products are then absorbed through body surface of organism. ex:- slime moulds.

heterotrophic- ex: amoeba and paramecium

phagocytic- in this mode , the individuals captures and ingests their food like animals. ex- amoeba and paramecium

autotrophic- the organisms prepare their food from CO2 and water by utilizing sunlight with the help of photosynthtic pigments like chlorophyll ex:- din flagellates, diatoms, and euglenoids.
