Consider that you want to learn more about how people use USB portable storage, as compared to network/cloud-based storage (in web accounts) or storage on their computer hard drives. More specifically, you want to learn how children and young adults (aged 10–18) and older users (aged 65–85) use these storage devices. You want to learn more about which devices individuals prefer and in what situations they use them. Would you use probabilistic or non-probabilistic sampling? (Provide explanation for sampling approach) What questions might you ask? Come up with at least five questions. How would you structure the survey? Would you use contingent questions? Provide an explanation to your response How would you pretest the survey? How would you ensure that you receive a sufficient number of responses?
Now this question has something do with, technology awareness as well. Its not just about how will you do it!? Its also about how much are you aware?
Now lets see some examples of Technology usage,
Which age group do you think would be comfortable with smartphones?
Less than 60 may be, depends on the country though, but generally its the scenario.
Which age group will prefer remote control televisions rather than platforms like youtube, NETFLIX?
Less than 60
Now what insights do you get out of these questions, that technology usage is dependent upon the age factor, or say generation gap as well.
Now cloud based products and solutions are new gen solutions which are sought out by newer generation while USB based is although still in need but, only few people are depending on it.
I will prefer Cloud storage over USB as, its faster, reliable, secure and also no need to handle it physically.
While my father like USB storage, as using cloud storage and its options are too much for him.
Thus, its clear, go for probabilistic sampling, here as it will give you insight about which age group has higher probability of using your product.
NOTE : this is something, real corporates also use, for their product.
What questions might you ask?
1. How much do you rate yourself in using a Smartphone?
This question indirectly gives you the probability this person will be good to use cloud storage.
2. Do you know what ClOUD is?
If answer is, it rains ?, you have got the answer.
3.How do you recover your lost files?
This qusstion indirectly provides you the user's storing strategy.
4.What do you do when your inbuilt memory is full?
5. If provided will you use Cloud storage or USB?
NOW All thses questions tell you about the nature of usage of particular storing strategies and how much does the user is aware about new technologies.
How would you structure the survey?
I would divide the survey in parts.
Do not directly jump on to questions, it makes user get bored easily.
Tell him about the new technology of storing, and then ask is he going to use it?
Now this strategy works fine with old people, as they have enough time and patience.
With new generation, lure them with some new game trailers and, they will read and answer whatever u ask?
Would you ask contingent questions?
YES, as questions Related to certain conditions are the best way, to predict what will the user be wanting.
In simple terms these questions act like predictive analysis.
How would you pretest the survey?
As Tesla did it with his electricity.
Do it inhouse first, this gives you rough idea, how much response are your questions getting.
Go to your friends, friend of friends, relatives, family. And check the response.
Mind not to get criticised for your questions, try to adapt and change them.
How would you achieve sufficient responses?
The best way, what i did in one of my surveys was to reach out to complete strangers shamelessly. This is what many avoid.
I used to search random names on various social medias, and send them my form.
I used to create memes about the topic, for which i need responses. And circulate them in chat groups, and timelines.
Now,ask your acquaintances to form a chain reaction of circulation.
Post your form links on your statuses everywhere.
Last and the most favorite part, rea h out to good youtbe channels, they will help you for free even.
NOTE : i was able to bag 50k responses in just 10 days.
I HOPE YOU LIKED IT.
