Describe the differences between and FOOD CHAIN
and a FOOD WEB in an ecosystem. Define what a
trophic-level is and what that has to do with the
energy transfer in the ecosystem and how this impacts
CARRYING CAPACITY for any species
Describe an ecosystem and a food web in that ecosystem.
Specifically detail how ONE of the four biogeochemical cycles
(hydrologic, carbon, nitrogen, or phosphorus) works in your
ecosystem. Include sources, sinks and processes that move the
nutrient in your ecosystem. You should also include how energy
flows through the ecosystem.
1.
Define and describe what is meant by Sn1 and Sn2.
2. Describe the differences between Sn1 and SN2 reactions,
including mechanistic details.
3. Discuss the difference between the intermediates for each
mechanisms- which you should draw.
What do you see as the primary differences between a Web
DEVELOPER and a Web DESIGNER? What are some factors that a
Developer must consider over a Designer, or vice versa? Why,
specifically, is it important for each to have an understanding of
what the other does?
Both keystone and foundation species are critical to ecosystem
function. What are key differences between these two categories of
species? Do some research on your own about different types of
keystone and foundation species, and describe an example of each.
What would happen if these species were eliminated? Discuss.

Some organisms are specialists and dependent on one food source
while others are generalists and rely on many different food
sources. Which is more able to withstand changes in the ecosystem,
specialists or generalists and why is that?
What do you think would happen if an oil spill occurred that
killed off most of the phytoplankton and zooplankton?
