The Soxhlet extractor or simply Soxhlet is a type of glass material used for the extraction of compounds, generally of a lipid nature, contained in a solid, through an affinity solvent.

This works in the following way: When it evaporates, the solvent goes up to the area where it is condensed; here, when falling and returning to the solvent chamber, it separates the compounds until a desired concentration is reached, which can cause problems with some compounds, which, with the cycles, lead to the rupture of the balloon.

When the orange peel oil is extracted by the soxhlet method, a distillation process is carried out to separate the solvent (usually some alcohol) from the oil (heavier).

Finally the oil can be refined or it can be used crude. Saponification index tests are carried out to determine the amount of soda or potash necessary to make the soap.
