Identify and describe three Dissociative Disorders
Dissociative disorders are major disorders that involves experiencing a disconnection and lack of continuity in thoughts. People having dissociative disorders escape from reality and cause problem in everyday functioning. these people have difficulty in keeping memory.
Three major dissociative disorders described in DSM - 5 are.
Dissociative amnesia - This is severe memory loss more severe than forgetfulness. One is not able to recall information about oneself or people in life. This amnesia can be specific to events and certain time.It may involve confused travelling ( dissociative fuge). Such episodes suddenly occurs and may last for minutes, hours or rarely even months and years.
Dissociative identity disorder - This was formerly known as multiple personality disorder.It is characterised by switching into personalities. Each identity has got unique name, personal history, characteristics, even gender and mannerism. Such people often have dissociative amnesia or dissociative fuge.
Depersonalisation or degeneralization disorder - This involves detachment from yourself, observing your actions, feelings, thoughts and self from a distance such as watching a movie. depersonalisation. Other things may seem very slow, foggy, dreamy - derealization.One may experience both, it may last for many years
