In no less than 250 words, please write a well thought out, informative opinion as to how states should handle gun control?
Something to think about: Should there be a strict vetting process in place across the country, why or why not?
Try to compare a state with strict gun control laws compared to a state with more lenient gun laws.
APA guidelines required
State should handle gun control by following few guidelines before issuing license to people:-
1. getting background checked- one's background must be checked for things like, family history, criminal record, mental issue, aggression etc
2.raising the minimum age to buy guns- the age should be increased as, 18 years old are young adults who are mostly impulsive.
3. the state should ban weapons which are frequently used as assault weapons - these weapons include, semi-automatic pistols, rifles and shot guns etc.
4. ban on bump stock- it is an attachment to semi-automatic weapons that increases the rate of fire such that it closely resembles an automatic weapon.
5. red flag laws - in this system, courts are given the authority to take away weapons from the people who are considered to be a threat to themselves and the society.
There should be strict vetting process. vetting process is the background check on someone before offering them something, here, a license to gun. By following this way, the authorities will get to know about a particular person's background, for example, mental status, family status, cases of aggression etc, and many mass killing could be saved.
California is believed to have one of the strictest gun laws and Texas is believed to have one of the most lenient. the rate of deaths by firearms are 7.9% (3184) and 12.1% (3353) on every one lac of population respectively. this shows that state with strict gun laws have lower rate of killing than the one with lenient gun laws.
