Why do phototropic sporangiophores avoid solid objects?

Solutions

Expert Solution

There are different types of fungi exisiting in the environment. The different types of fungi are differentiated on the basis of their mode of spore spreading technique as one of the criteria. Here, it must be carefully noted that spreading of spores in the environment is a highly critical step for completing the life cycle of a fungus since spreading of the fungal spores determines the range of their distribution.

Phototropic sporangiophores are those type of fungi which grow in the presence of sunlight as a stimulus in the upward direction. This means that these fungi bear their fungal spore bodies in their aerial parts which grows in response to presence of sunlight. Thus, any solid substratum is left only downwards since the fungus is growing in upward direction. Secondarily, the fungal spores are released in the air or in the open surfaces so that they might reach the consumers and thus could be spreaded on long distances. In order to ensure this dispersal, it is important that the fungal hyphae grow in a direction away from the solid substratum.

Thus, this describes that it is necessary that the phototropic sporangiophores avoid solid objects and grow aerially in upwards direction.
