What is the effect of prenatal testosterone experience on sexual behavior? Study of homosexuals: what is the probability of a monozygotic twin being a homosexual. For a dizygotic twin? List the differences between "tournament" and "pair-bonding" species

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer: The presence of testosterone in prenatal time has a considerable effect on the alteration of :

  1. Reproductive physiology
  2. Central nervous system morphology
  3. Central nervous system function
  4. Masculinization of sexual behavior
  5. Defeminization of sexual behavior

As per the study of homosexuals, when the study was conducted for 38 pairs of monozygotic twins approx 65.8% were found to have orientation for homosexuality. And, when the study was concluded for 33 pairs of dizygotic twins, approx 30.4% were found to have orientation for homosexuality.

Tournament species: The species where the only ones that breed, are top males. Also, the opposite sexes have different characteristics. It is easy to distinguish between males and females based on their characteristics.  The males of the species have characteristics of dominance and aggressive behavior and they seek competition. For eg: Lions, Mountain gorilla, etc.

Pair-bonding species: The species where both the males and females are almost of the same size. And it is difficult to distinguish between the males and females as they look somewhat similar.  Females look for a compatible partner and seek less competition. The pair-bonding species generally have long life. Eg: Penguins, swans
