Pros and Cons of Managed Care In America and how can we make it better? or can it get any better or worse? What makes it good and what makes it bad?
Managed care is process where a network of service provider take the responsibility of providing health services on demand to patients who have subscribed to it .
Advantages
It make available the health services on demand. Anytime anywhere . No requirement if ioing and searching hospital and doctors and waiting in queue.
Faster process of getting referral if need arises as network doctors will easily recommend for referal
Cost. Generally it is provided with discounted rate if compared to random visit to same doctor .
Whole family can have one doctor and doctor can be more aware of patient overall health and ses situation.
Disadvantages
Limited choice of doctor. You can choose from a restricted list only
Strict norms and rules for availing the benefits.
If one has not got Insuance , it may prove to be costly if any major health issue arises.
Doctors in network tries to Increase the bill by means of conducting unnecessary diagnostic tests.
Loss of privacy
Large waiting times if more patients are enrolled than doctor .
It make difficult for those who don't have managed care to get a good doctor as most are deployed in managed care.
If pool of doctors in network is increased and good renowned doctor is included then it can be become even better.
Moreover, ethical practise must be incorporated such as recommending only what is necessary will improve public trust and more people will come into network.
