1) 65. mLs of water is added to 403 mLs of 2.39 M solution of HCl. What is the new molarity of the solution?

2) How much water must be added to 403mLs pf 2.39 M solution of HCl. What is the new molarity of the solution?

Solutions

Expert Solution

(1) According to law of dilution   MV = M'V'

Where M = Molarity of stock = 2.39 M

V = Volume of the stock = 403 mL

M' = Molarity of dilute solution = ?

V' = Volume of the dilute solution = 403+65(from water) = 468 mL

Plug the values we get   , M' = MV /V'

                                              = ( 2.39x403) / 468

                                              = 2.06 M

Therefore the molarity of new solution is 2.06 M

(2)Question (2) is not clear.

HCl significantly reduced pH when added to water. For 1x10^-3M HCl solution, find the pH and [HCl] concentration at equilibrium. Solve problem by assuming whether solution is acidic or basic and using approximation method. HCl = H+ + Cl- K = 10^+3 Is it true that HCl almost completely dissociates in this system? Solve the problem again. This time assume that HCl completely dissociates and do not make an assumption about acidicity.

Suppose that 200.0mL of a 0.1220 M HCL solution was added to a full antacid tabet containing CaCO3. The HCl fully reacted with the CO3^2- and the excess HCL was then back titrated with a 0.1050 M NaOH solution.
