Monkey Pox:

  • This is a viral disease which is similar to small pox.
  • This is a rare disease.
  • This is caused by monkey pox virus.
  • It's found mostly in the areas of Africa.
  • The symptoms include flu like symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes and rashes.
  • This disease lasts for 2-4 weeks.
  • This can lead to complications like pneumonia and encephalitis which are fatal.
  • This transmission occurs in contact with an animal or a person infected with the virus.
  • Initial diagnosis includes illness as measles or chickenpox, but later on by the swelling of lymph nodes it is diagnosed as monkey pox.
  • The diagnosis is carried out by taking a tissue sample from the open sore and this is tested by PCR.
  • Most of the patients with this condition get better on their own without any treatment.
  • But who requires treatment are monitored and try to relive your symptoms by preventing dehydration and giving antibiotics to treat the secondary bacterial infections if developed.
  • preventive measures include avoid contact with infected animals or persons, washing hands frequently, avoid contact with bedding contaminated with virus, wear masks.
  • The genetic material is dsDNA.
  • Its not known exactly how it enters the cell.
  • But they  suspect that the virus binds to the Glycose amino glycans (GAG) on the normal cell. then it enters the cell but it is not clearly known.
