A 7% DEXTROUS SOLUTION (7 MG PER 100 ML OF SOLUTION) IS GIVEN INTRAVENOUSLY SUPPOSE A TOTAL OF 1.61L OF THE SOLUTION IS GIVEN OVER A 14 HOUR PERIOD.
A) WHAT IS FLOW RATE IN UNITS OF ML/HR?
B) WHAT IS FLOW RATE IN DEXTROUS PER HOUR?
C) IF EACH ML CONTAINS 16 DROPS WHAT IS THE FLOW RATE IN UNITS OF GTT/HR?
D) DURING THE 14 HOUR PERIOD HOW MUCH DEXTROUS IS DELIVERED?
Solution:-
Given, A 7% DEXTROUS SOLUTION (7 mg PER 100 ml OF SOLUTION) IS GIVEN INTRAVENOUSLY .
A TOTAL OF 1.61L OF THE SOLUTION IS GIVEN OVER A 14 HOUR PERIOD.
Now, 1 L = 1000 ml
1.61 L = 1.61×1000 ml
=1610 ml
A) FLOW RATE (ml/hr) =volume of solution in ml / infusion time in hr
=1610 ml/14 hr
=105 ml/ hr
(B) Dextrous solution 7 mg/100 ml means:
100 ml solution contain 7 mg dextrous
1 ml solution contain = 7/100 mg dextrous
1610 ml solution contain= (7/100)×1610 mg dextrous
=112.7 mg dextrous
FLOW RATE ( DEXTROUS PER HOUR) = total dextrous in mg present in 1.61 L solution/infusion time in hr
=112.7 mg/14 hr
=8.05 mg/hr
(C) drop factor= 16 drops/ml
1 ml contain 16 drops
1610 ml contain =16 ×1610 drops
=25760 drops(gtts)
Flow rate ( gtt/hr) = total drops in 1.61 L/ infusion time in hr
=25760 gtts/14 hr
=1840 gtts/hr
(D)
Dextrous solution 7 mg/100 ml means:
100 ml solution contain 7 mg dextrous
1 ml solution contain = 7/100 mg dextrous
1610 ml solution contain= (7/100)×1610 mg dextrous
=112.7 mg dextrous
1610 ml= 1.61 L
This 1.61 L solution has to be infuse over 14 hr.
Dextrous contain in 1.61 L solution = 112.7 mg
So, 112.7 mg dextrous is delivered over 14 hr
