Your Smith textbook lists several methods of removing lesions. Select one method of removal and locate a more specific description of that type of removal. (For example, Removal of skin tags. Skin tags can be removed by cutting, cryosurgery, and electrosurgery etc. You would then go into the details of these different methods.). Make sure to include your sources. Respond to two classmates with a scenario for the skin lesion that they selected and the applicable CPT codes. This should not be an example from anywhere in the book. It need not be overly complex, but it shouldn't be overly easy either. Be sure to include the necessary information in your scenario (size, body part, number of lesions etc).
Ans: Methods of Lesion Removal: Shaving, Scissoring, excision and destruction, pairing and cutting (spoon shaped instrument)
Shaving is the sharp removal, transverse incision, horizontal slicing
Scissoring skin tag removal method using a pair of medical scissors (blunt sharp scissors)
Ligature- consists of a piece of thread (suture) tied around an anatomical structure, usually a blood vessel or another hollow structure (e.g. urethra) to shut it off.
Ligature Strangulation: Strangulation- excessive or pathological constriction or compression of a bodily tube (as a blood vessel or a loop of intestine) that interrupts its ability to act as a passage.
Excision Benign Lesion: Full thickness (through the dermis or true skin) removal of a lesion, including the diameter, margin (most narrow margin) and simple non layered closure when performed.
Benign Lesions used for removal of benign lesions. Benign Lesion is one in which the cell growth is abnormal but not life-threatening (nonmalignant tumor). Other names for lesion are cyst, neoplasm, tumor, growth, also cicatrical, fibrous, inflammatory, congenital or cystic are all refer to a benign lesion
Malignant Lesion is one in which the abnormal cell growth is found to be ancerous. Basal cell carcinoma, papillocystic carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma of the skin. Malignant melanoma is not only in skin but also in mucous membranes and eye too.
