The mitotic spindle consists of ___________. These arise from two _____________, located at a _______________. The mitotic spindle moves ______________ around the cell by attaching to their ________________.
1. The mitotic spindle consists of microtubules.
The microtubules are also made up of globular tubulin proteins.
2. These arise from two centrioles located at a centrosome.
There are two centrosomes present in each cell. These centrosomes are present outside the nucleus or at both poles of the cell. Each centrosome is consists of two centrioles which are perpendicular to each other. Each centriole is composed of 9 microtubules and and these centrioles gives rise to the spindle fibers.
3. The mitotic spindle moves parallel around the cell by attaching to their centrosomes.
The mitotic spindles joints to the centrosome (from where they originate) and rus parallel across the cell. The other end of the mitotic spindle attaches to the kinetochore of the chromosome (one mitotic spindle to one chromosome, mitotic spindle from both poles of the cell attaches to the kinetochore of a chromosome ). When the mitotic spindle contracts, the chromosomes separates at the kinetochore or the centromere and both chromosomes moves towards the opposite poles as per the mitotic spindle attached to them.
