Answer must be at least 150 words
Sigmund Freud in his most influential Psychodynamic Approach suggests that the unconscious mind plays a huge role in shaping a person’s personality. The unconscious mind is occupied by the feelings and emotions that were suppressed during the childhood. He introduced psychosexual development where he introduced the five stages of development such as Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latent and Genital. He says that each stage needs to be completed successfully in order to develop a successful personality otherwise fixation will occur which will slow down the personality development. Freud’s contribution in terms of three different personalities such as, ID, Ego and Superego are also significant in the field of psychology.
Karl Rogers contributed with his humanistic theory of Self-Concept which is a consistent set of beliefs about oneself. For Rogers, how a person views themselves is really important in shaping one’s personality. Roger’s theory suggests that all who are born in this world are actually good and capable but the self-concept that they develop about themselves determines their overall personality. He suggests that everyone should strive towards self-actualization which is very similar to Abraham Maslow.
