A new model tea cup will be produced at one of the two machines. The operator produces the tea cups with machines 1 and 2, and randomly selects 160 and 125 parts from machine 1 and 2, respectively. The tea cups are inspected, and the number of defectives are determined as 12 and 5, respectively. Which machine should be used in production? Use a=0.05
Let P1: Proportion of defectives produced from machine 1
P2: Proportion of defectives produced from machine 2
As p-value = 0.1620757 > 0.05, we have to accept H0. Hence, the proportion of defectives in the two samples do not differ significantly.
Hence, any of the two machines can be chosen and the will give similar results.
