Describe the differences between ethical egoism, utilitarianism, and altruism. Give an example of each.
The difference between ethical egoism, utilitarianism, and altruism are:
Ethical egoism deals with the self interest. The people are motivated to do things that works in the best interest of them. Example- The motive behind good works of a leader during his/her tenure would be get re-elected in the next election.
Utilitarianism deal with the consequences that is the work that produces maximum good for maximum people. The consequences of any action should bring maximum happiness to majority of people. Example- The motive of a leader during the tenure would be to do those actions that would bring more goodness to most people.
Altruism deals with actions that are meant to bring happiness and goodness to all people even it means to sacrifice one's self. The actions in altruism is selfless, means actions are done with the intention of doing good to others than oneself.
Example- The actions of a leader would be with a motivation of doing good to others even it costs the chances of getting re-elected.
