Acne vulgaris is a dermatological disorder caused by inflammation of the pilosebaceous units. Pilosebaceous units consist of hair follicles and the underlying sebaceous glands. The term vulgaris means common and this disorder is prevalent among adolescents. Acne vulgaris appears as lesions on the face and torso. These lesions can be either inflammatory or non-inflammatory and can include the presence of comedones, papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts.
Causes of Acne vulgaris
1. bacterium like Cutibacterium acnes and Propionibacterium acnes which causes inflammation.
2. Increased sebum production due to hormones known as androgens
3. clogging of skin pores by dead cells and excess sebum, causing the formation of comedones.
4. use of tight-fitting clothes which causes excessive sweating and irritation of skin.
5. Use of certain cosmetic products which in turn can cause inflammation.
6. Metabolic disorders which hormonal imbalance like polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS or PCOD) and also pregnancy.
