some neurotransmitters can have hormonal activity
true or false

Solutions

Expert Solution

TRUE.

Neurotransmitters may have hormonal activity and vice-versa is also possible.

Explanation -

Neurotransmitters are the chemicals released bt the neurons into the synapse to communicate with the other neurons. While hormones are the chemicals released by the endocrine gland and they act as a chemical messenger an are released into the blood. They guide other cells and tissues to act accordingly.

Neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin also act as hormones. Dopamine act as a neurotransmitter in the brain. Also, it is released by the hypothalamus and it inhibits the release of prolactin.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter but it also acts as a hormone. It controls sleep, sexual desire, memory, digestion, etc.

Hormones such as progesterone and estrogen are also found to perform neurotransmitter activities.
