Why is it important to randomly select your plots when sampling species diversity?
The concept of species , in various biological perspectives is slightly variable and overlapping at times , hence , considering the context , one can choose to opt for the ecological perspective
In ecological perspective , the 'niche' of a species is unique , hence one can compare the information gleaned , with that of a standard reference for ascertaining which one of the two narrowed down species , it resembles or corresponds best.
The niche of a species pertains to it's ecological role, or the functional attributes, which shall be unique in a given ecosystem.hence considering that one has not stumbled upon an entirely unknown species , the available reference data shall be an important tool for definitive categorisation.
Alternatively one can choose the molecular biology methods and opt for DNA hybridization match serological studies if applicable and feasible.
Another method Shall be to check for interbreeding with a confirmed member of either of the two species, for which the choices have been correctly narrowed down
